History

Boca Chica was founded, developed and promoted at the beginning of the 20th century by Juan Bautista Vicini Burgos as a bathing resort.

The boom time of the area was in the 50's, when dictator Rafael Trujillo ordered the building of a modern hotel, the Hamaca. This hotel became famous when Trujillo granted political asylum to the Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista during the revolution in Cuba. After Trujillo had been murdered in May 1961, the hotel was shut down and remained closed for more than 20 years.

It was only around 1990 that it reopened. During the 50΄s and 60΄s many rich Dominican families built their summer homes along the coast, which were accessible only by private roads. In the 70΄s the area became popular with the local population.Since then public transport to the area is efficient and frequent.

The small village of Boca Chica is located in the south of the Dominican Republic, 30 minutes by car east of Santo Domingo. You reach the capital of the Dominican Republic easily by car, bus or taxi.
